I just got off the phone with an Opposing Counsel in one of my cases. He slyly mentioned that he would file 'a 137' if I continued on my planned course because there were things 'I didn't know about'.
My first thought was that I was being threatened. My second was, what the fuck is 137? My third thought was 137 sounds like Sanctions.
So I did what anyone would do: I told him thank you but I'll still be doing what I planned, I hung up the phone, read Rule 137, and had my fourth thought: "Sanctions my ass. I'm doing everything I'm supposed to do. He can go fuck himself."
And to think that it only took 8 months of practicing law. Awesome!
